Summer Challenge
The 2026 Summer Challenge theme is SUMMER ART CAMP! Each week we will be focusing on a different illustration technique. We will share a featured title to pair with camp-themed summer fun and art activities, plus a list of titles for further reading.
On this page you will find links to all the posts and resources that we’ll be sharing throughout the summer. SUMMER ART CAMP lasts from June 1 to July 27, but you can join us any time! If you post about the challenge on social media, tag us on Instagram and use the hashtag #RDDSummerChallenge. At the end of the summer there will be chance to win books to expand your library!

Recommended Art Camp Supplies List
A sketchbook or pad of mixed media paper
Pencils, colored pencils, pens, markers
A variety of colored and/or scrap paper
Scissors
Glue sticks
Styrofoam plates or trays
Tempera paints or water-soluble block printing ink
An ink brayer, like this (optional, but would be helpful)
Paint brushes of various sizes
Sidewalk chalk, soft pastels, oil pastels
Watercolor paints
Scratch art set, like this one
